Sumitha Shaanthinni Kishna
Founder and Director, Our Journey Sumitha has 16 years of experience working on the ground with migrant workers and domestic workers' communities in Asia and bringing their perspectives and voices to conversations on migrants rights and protection.
About this speaker
Sumitha Shaanthinnni Kishna is an advocate and solicitor and the sole proprietor of Chambers of Sumitha. She holds an LLB (Hons) from University of East London and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2005. She is a qualified mediator and on the mediators' panel of the Bar Council Malaysian Mediation Centre.
She is also the Director of Our Journey, a civil society organisation based in Malaysia which provides probono legal representation to migrant and refugee communities in labour, immigration and criminal cases.
Sumitha is the current Chairperson of Migrant Forum in Asia, a regional network with civil society, trade unions, academicians, journalists, lawyers, members of parliaments and individuals from 22 countries in Middle East and Asia advocating for the rights and protection of migrant workers.
Sumitha is also the President of the Women's Aid Organisation, the largest service provider in Malaysia offering free shelter, counselling, and crisis support to women and children who experience domestic violence.
