The Responsible Recruitment of Women Migrant Workers

Speakers: Sarah McGregor , Mary Ann Abunda , Marilyn Croser and Agnieszka Raczynska

About this Session

There are 70 million women migrant workers in the world, employed in all sectors and all locations. Many are in informal employment as domestic workers. Women migrant workers may be subject to triple vulnerability and face additional challenges because - They are in low wage / low status employment - they are migrant workers - they are women.

In 2024 IHRB undertook a gender review of the Dhaka Principles for Migration with Dignity resulting in a number of amends and additions being made to the Implementation Guidance to better reflect the experience of women at all stages of the migration cycle. They also produced a short report on the challenges that women migrant workers can face during recruitment. This session will seek to unpick and discuss further what some of those challenges are and how they might be addressed.
